OUR GROWERS

Bradley

Meet Bradley Dodds!

He is a sixth generation farmer in the area of Jansenville. Originally the family farmed with Angora Goats and Merino Sheep, but decided that it was time to diversify and joined the Noorsveld Chickens Family.

Meet Henlo Barkhuizen. He and Bradley met each other while studying at University in Port Elizabeth. As their friendship grew, Bradley invited Henlo to become a partner in the business on the farm. They are our youngest farmers and share the responsibility of looking after their Noorsveld Chickens.

Even though farming can be challenging, they say it is how you get up when you fall that makes all the difference.

Brad & Henlo love their farming community, saying that Oom Gerrit and the other farmers are only a phone call away, ready to help one another and to give advice. When asked if they have future aspirations in other ventures, they both refer to farming and diversifying in the sector as the way forward for them.

Bradley and Henlo joined the Noorsveld family in 2019. They started out with 4000 birds and grew to 6000, with dreams of expanding. They are enjoying the process of learning and even though farming can be challenging, they say it is how you get up when you fall that makes all the difference.

Both Bradley and Henlo admit that farming takes up most of their time. Where it comes to Noorsveld Chickens, in the beginning when the chicks arrive, they need to check on the birds every two hours to make sure the temperatures are perfect.

When they do find a moment off, they enjoy spending it with family and friends. As business partners, they also like to go unwind in the veld. It helps that they are both passionate about animals and that they get to work with them daily.
