OUR GROWERS

Fritz Knoetze

Meet Fritz Knoetze, or affectionately known as Oom Fritz!

The land, handed down through generations as far back as the 1800’s, is now home to him, his wife, his son and of course the chickens. To him, his birds are everything and he currently takes care of 3200 chicks.

Oom Fritz joined the Noorsveld farming family exactly a year ago! He loves the fact that the birds give him a new lease in life, keeping him busy day and night.

“The Karoo has been in a drought for years, but seeing how the chickens thrive, gives one hope.”

Oom Fritz finds it very pleasing that you get to see the results of your hard work.

“The Karoo has been in a drought for years, but seeing how the chickens thrive, gives one hope.”

As luck would have it, an old unused school building on Oom Fritz’s farm was the correct dimensions to house his birds. With subtle alternations, he was able to create the perfect environment for the chicks to grow. He fondly stated: “If you love animals, you will love working with chickens.”

Chicks are sensitive to heat and cold. In order for them to grow and thrive, they need to be housed in just the right conditions.

A heating system keeps them warm during colder periods, furthermore, ventilation flaps open and close to assist with temperature control.

It’s not just about producing meat. It’s about the animal and its welfare. We are so privileged to be able to hand-select our small farmers and to assist them in the farming process.

Even though farming can be extremely tough, having a purpose every day makes it all bearable. When new chicks arrive, they require a lot of attention, during the day and night.

Being responsible for the welfare of the chickens brings joy to Oom Fritz.

Thank you for your hard work Oom Fritz!
