Anton

Meet Farmer Anton!

He is originally from Despatch. For 15 years he worked on a farm in Natal and after completing the course, assisted with the Anti Poaching unit in that area. As his passion grew, he started his own Anti Poaching business but with the constant requirements of the industry, and being newly married, he longed for a simpler life.

Anton’s farm was owned by his best friend’s grandparents and he fondly remembers visiting there since Grade 3. Little did he know then, that one day he would purchase it and be farming on that very land. He said he would not exchange the peaceful existence his family enjoys for anything.

Anton and his wife have been married for 20 years, and with their two children, they are a close family. His son loves the outdoor life, and even though he is still young, he would like to continue the legacy of farming. For relaxation, Anton enjoys fishing and hunting.

Farming is a game of faith, especially during the drought. Without the support of the local community and farmers alike, one does not know where you would be. From infrastructure issues to the change in climate, it can be trying, but as Anton mentioned, he grew up here and would not exchange this life for another.

Anton mentions that the people around him in the Karoo, along with the Noorsveld farming family, forms a tight knit community that transcends all age groups. The families enjoy spending time together which keeps them close and able to support one another in times of need.

Anton shares the farm with his lovely wife and two children. Together, they joined the Noorsveld family in 2019, starting with 3000 birds. He is currently building and hopes to scale up to 20 000 in the near future.

Farmer Anton has become known for his incredible braai skills mixed with his very own spice blend! It’s called Musketeer’s One for All Karoo Spice and can be purchased at several retail outlets.
